Parenting - Raising Children



Indeed, raising children is a tremendous job in itself that demand time and attention however stay at home mother is becoming a privilege, which might become more & more difficult going forward.

In this context, there are various aspects that can be considered, however as every child is different and every parent has different circumstances and boundaries, thereby each parent needs to fine tune their respective style that works best for them. 

Here are some of the opportunities that can be explored.

1 - Energetic start of the day

Establishing a bond with your child as a teammate is essential. Just as the start of the match, the teammates assemble and review their action plan to take up their positions, likewise you may start a habit of an energetic day start, where you discuss what your kid as well as you need to accomplish during the day and exchange the good bye to take your positions.

2 - Maintain a family calendar

You may explore the priorities and set them in a calendar that you can put at display anywhere the child(ren) can see most of the time, which may include family events, birthdays, extracurricular activities etc. You can engage the children in management of this calendar, such as, you discuss the addition of any event with them and tell them to add it and upon completion ask them to write their comments about the event on the calendar.

3 - Stay in touch during the day

Your child will spend half day at school, therefore you may get in touch with him / her, ask them if they have taken the lunch and tell him / her about YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE DAY that you discussed in the morning, rather asking him / her first and once you explain your progress, invite their progress. Appreciate them to ensure that he / she get the respective assignments done as expected.

4- Establish a family time

It might be difficult at time; however, you may see how it works for you if you spend last half hour of the day while tucking your child(ren) to bed with them. This will give you the opportunity to discuss the targets defined at day start, how much they were met and what to do tomorrow. Alongside, you may watch something with them on TV that can make them laugh (as well as you with them). The point is to spend quality time, doesn’t matter how much it is.

6 - Spend time with your partner
No matter how best you try to raise your child(ren), at one time or another, you’ll need the support from others, even if you are a stay at home mom. Therefore, your partner will be the number one person by your side. May be once in a month, having a dinner with him / her in some restaurant or a cup of coffee is not a bad investment to feel reanimated that in turn will return as a positive form of energy to your child.

7 - Celebrate achievements
Achievements of your child(ren) should not go unnoticed. Even a flower as a gift against catching up and completing all day assignments is a reward. The key is to pass the sentiments to appreciate the job well done.


8 - Avoid ‘You’
Raising a child is probably the most difficult job & children make mistakes. It cannot be change, however upon every mistake they do, do not use the word ‘you’. Such as rather saying ‘you did not complete the homework’, approach the problem as ‘the homework is still not done’. It is essential to point the problem then person.

9 - Use weekend for outdoor activities
During the weekdays, it’s important for you to focus on your tasks, likewise it’s important for your child to focus on his / her. Nevertheless, going to a picnic or a movie can be an activity to explore on weekends specifically.

10 - Give him / her a role model
Its relatively easy to inspire children then adults and if you won’t do it, someone else may do. Whoever will inspire your child, he or she will start adopting his style and behavior. Thereby, it is essential for a parent to set themselves as the role model for their kids. As they say, you must be today what you want your kids to be tomorrow.
